Capel Way, Herron

In 2005, I met with a client (Jenny) who had recently bought a 5 acre lot in Herron.

On Jenny’s block was a large number of Mature Tuarts and like most Tuarts in this area, they were either completely dead or had necrotic crowns. The average height was 20m-30m with a DBH of 1.5 – 2m and with masses of epicormic growth within the lower to mid crowns.

Jenny wanted to know what could be done with these trees as she wanted to see them look better and be made safe.

Jenny wanted to replant the missing under-storey native plants throughout her block to restore it to its natural state and she had in fact already started planting trees and shrubs under the existing Tuarts.

After some discussion it was recommended that all the dead trees would be taken down to a stump and the tree docked up and stockpiled against the stump for future firewood and fauna shelters.

The live trees were pruned of deadwood to 50mm and reduced and shaped by 25%-30% to healthy, sound re-growth. This debris was stockpiled neatly away from remaining vegetation for burning the following year as this would save Jenny a lot of money.
